CASA CRY JULY, 2017
For years we did dumpster diving at stores. We did this for several reasons. It helped us to feed our guests, to salvage food and to protect the environment. As you are aware, 4 billion tons of edible food is thrown out each year by grocery stores, restaurants and individuals in our society.About 40% of produced edible food is thrown out each year. That is $165 billion worth of food each year. The average US family of four wastes more than $100 worth of food a year We did the dumpster diving up until the stores started dumping chemicals on the food and then eventually locked the dumpsters. When we asked the stores why they did this we found out that they were afraid of being sued by people who took food from their dumpsters. So we formed a Food Bank Coalition calling on all food pantries to ask our state politicians to write a bill that would permit food outlets to give away food without fear of being sued. It was called “The Good Samaritan Bill”. It passed the state legislature, and we were able to save edible food from being thrown out by the food outlets. Recently, St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church started the “Just One More” ministry. With the help of volunteers they are able to pick up the edible food due to be thrown out by the stores and bring the food to a warehouse where the food is sorted and put out for pick up. Different groups that feed the poor are called to come and pick up food for the people they serve. Other food is used to make up meals for those who have difficulty preparing food for themselves, and churches come to pick up the meals. Street people are also fed in this manner. It is amazing how much food is picked up and given to the poor. We take the non-edible food and compost it in the community garden called the Linden Hill Community Garden. If you would like to join us in helping with this important ministry by sorting food, preparing meals, picking up food, etc. , please call Don at Casa Maria or call Chris at Just one More at 262-719-6886. Just One More is trying to raise money, and someone has agreed to donate $50,000 in matching funds. We pray this will happen. It is a sin that we allow so many people in various parts of the world to die of hunger when there is an abundance of food in the world that planes could deliver to them to save their lives. Instead we use planes to bomb people, destroy their homes, villages and crops causing even more hunger and poverty. -----Don Timmerman

Jesus is always on my side so it enables me to take the fast lane on the expressway. On our trip out west I was invited to eat bison meat. But I decided to let bisons be bisons.
A horse walks into a bar. The bartender says "You're in here a lot. Are you an alcoholic?" The horse ponders for a moment, responds "I don't think I am", and POOF, he disappears! At this point, philosophy students start to snicker, as they are familiar with Descartes' postulate, "I think, therefore I am." But if I had mentioned that earlier, I would have put Descartes before the horse.
A guy walks into a bar, orders a drink and tells the bartender he broke his leg in 2 places. The bartender tells him "Stop going to those places!" A cartoonist was found dead in his home. Details are sketchy.
Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to yodel, and you make him eat alone. Why was the archaeologist sad on Mother's Day? Because he could not find his mummy. Pregnant woman: When will my baby move? Doc: With any luck, right after she graduates from college.

The refugees are only allowed to eat once a day! Distribution of food and water outside the 6pm to 7:30pm window has been forcibly stopped by the police/CRS. This means that the morning breakfast distribution and the noon distribution have been made almost impossible. Giving of food and water is now only allowed at one specific place in the industrial zone during these specified times. Every evening after 7:30pm the refugees are dispersed by the police by force into the surrounding grass and woodlands. NOTES FROM 21ST ST. : A bee is buzzing around the large white flowers of my Hasta plants. The golden yellow of the Stella Dora lilies is glorious. The first red raspberries have opened. Other flowers are blooming also. It is a delight. It would be good if I could sit quietly and ponder the beauty around me, but I cannot. The weeds have also been prolific since Don and I took a vacation away. In fact, right now in my garden the weeds are winning. It is similar to what is happening in our country. Summer is here, a time for all to relax, yet our government continues to drop bombs on other countries spending increasingly more amounts on the military and continues to try and cut healthcare for those in need. So as much as I would like to smell the flowers, it is time to weed. As much as I would have liked to relax, Don and I joined others on Tuesday, June 27, at Volk Field to try to stop the use of drones that drop bombs on innocent civilians. Summer is here, fruit is ripening, flowers are blooming. I will give thanks and enjoy these things, but there continues work to be done. May God give us all strength to continue the struggle. Peace, Roberta
