I heard someone say, “I am wishing Mitch McConnell an unhappy birthday.” We may not like a person’s way of thinking and acting, but this gives us no right to wish unhappiness on anyone, even your worst enemy. We are called on to lighten peoples’ burdens and make it easier for people to be good. We are to “make our enemies our friends.” What we are asking our government to do we ourselves must do first. If we want the government to change, we must change first. Change comes from the bottom, not the top. Somehow people have this false notion that the more violence you do to someone the better your chances are of changing the person. I find the opposite is true. The better I treat someone the better chance there is that the person will do better. “ You get more flies with a spoonful of sugar than you do with a barrel full of vinegar.’ If we want a nonviolent world, we must learn to be nonviolent. If we want justice in the world we must learn to be just with others. If we do not want war, we must be committed to refusing to go to war and refusing to pay for it. ---Don Timmerman
“Nonconformity, Holy Disobedience, becomes a virtue, indeed a necessary and indispensable measure of spiritual self-preservation, in a day when the impulse to conform, to acquiesce, to go along is used as an instrument to subject people to totalitarian rule and involve them in permanent war….something for which all dictators and military leaders strive.”--A.J. Muste (1885-1967)

I like to think the guy who invented the umbrella was going to call it the “brella,” but he hesitated. I’ll call it a smartphone the day I yell, “Where’s my phone?” and it yells, “Down here! In the couch cushions”. It was a baby mosquito’s first day to fly out from home. When the mosquito came back home later, the father mosquito asked, “How was your journey?” The baby mosquito replied, “It went great, everyone was clapping for me.” I will never forget my Grandpa’s last words to me just before he died….”Are you still holding the ladder?” What do you get when you cross a rabbit with a Rottweiler? “Just a Rottweiler.”
Why did the dog go into the bar? To find out the one who shot his paw. It’s strange to think 75 years ago everyone owned a horse, and only the rich had cars. Today everyone has a car and only the rich own horses. Did you hear about the fight that broke out at the seafood restaurant? Two fish got battered. I had been out drinking on St. Patrick’s Day so I took a bus home. That may not be a big deal to you, but I’ve never driven a bus before. Why was Cinderella such a bad basketball player? Because her coach was a pumpkin. Give a man a fish, he’ll eat for a day. Teach a man to fish, and he’ll spend hundreds of dollars on equipment which he’ll use only twice a year.

We watched Israeli soldiers and border police as they confiscated a mobile classroom in the Palestinian village of Susiya, The soldiers arrived shortly after the start of the school day, and children crowded into the village’s small school and watched as the soldiers loaded the mobile classroom onto a flatbed truck after throwing desks, chairs and equipment in a pile in a muddy field in the rain.
