Lately I have been problems with the computer. The problem is that my vision is off, and I many times put the wrong password in the computer. I have to thank my grandson, Aaron, for helping me correcting my mistakes. He has been a very patient the generous to us and to many others. We are thankful for his assistance. We are still working for a peaceful settlement between the Ukraine and Russia. We have stated over and over that we should do what Christ did. He taught us by word and action what we need to do. He told us to constantly forgive, to love our enemies and do good to them. Instead, the U.S. continues to provide weapons which will increase the chance of more people getting killed or hurt. The defense industry is very happy since they get billions of dollars from the tax payers. The U.S. military corporations are wanting the war to continue as long as possible so it can continue to get more and more money. Would it not be wiser for us to help the millions who have suffered so much from natural disasters caused by climate change? One-third of the military budget would eliminate starvation in the world. Instead, we fund the military which is the biggest polluter of all. The Ukraine wants military aid, but by providing them with that aid, we are only making matters worse since weapons are made to do violence to others. Weapons do not stop violence. They only increase it. May this year’s resolution be to stop feeding war and start imitating the life of Christ. We thank all the people who work with us to provide hospitality to the homeless, helping mothers to do what is necessary to get their children back, and picking up and giving food, furniture and household goods to those in need. -Don Timmerman

Bears used to come around the house to find food. When the children got soda they would put the soda bottles out for the bears. One day one of the boys set out a soda bottle filled with gas instead of sofa. A bear came along and drank from the bottle and ran as fast as he could down the lane and eventually fell over. We later found out that the bear did not die, but he ran out of gas! A lazy neighbor finally cut his grass and found a car. What is Beethoven doing in his grave? Decomposing. NOTES FROM 21ST STREET: “Love and compassion are necessities, not luxuries. Without them humanity cannot survive.” ---Dalai Lama. A new year, 2023, is starting. If we all try each day to be loving and compassionate, we can create a new world. We certainly will create a more well-lived life. My sister, Kathy, died last week. She was 82 years old. She was born with an open spine and was not expected to live. A gifted surgeon was able to close the spine which left a huge scar on the back of her neck. She also had misshaped arms and hands. My mother was told that she should put Kathy in an institution. Love and compassion reigned, and my mother brought her home. She raised Kathy with the same love that she showed for Kathy’s three sisters and brother who followed. Kathy grew to be a creative, loving person. She raised 3 children and married a man she loved. She never complained about what life had dealt her. She always tried to be loving and compassionate. Shortly before her death she said to me, "Roberta, I now feel I am riding on a magic carpet, and God Is showing me so many lovely things.” Whenever I would ask her about whether the staff was taking good care of her She would always respond with “I can’t believe how very kind and thoughtful everyone is.” Love and compassion were part of her life from start to finish. May we each try to live with love and compassion. It is necessary for humanity to survive. Peace, Roberta
