CASA CRY Easter 2018
“There are four things in this life that will change you. Love, music, art and loss. The first three will keep you wild and full of passion. May you allow the last to make you brave”---Erin Van Vuren
Christ saved us by showing us how to have happy lives. May we rise with Him above retaliation, discrimination, sexism, racism, greed and violence. People, not God, persecuted and killed Christ. How did he react to this injustice? He showed love to them, and changed many lives in the process. Let us spread love around so we may all have happiness. What we do to others we do also to Christ. When we bomb and kill others, we are doing so to Christ. ---Don Timmerman
Alex Van den Hoeven of our community did this wood carving seen on the back. They are a personr with many talents. What’s the difference between a musician and a frozen pizza? A frozen pizza can feed a family of 4. What’s the difference between an accordion and an onion? No one cries when you cut up your accordion Explain the game of football. Well, in the beginning of the game they throw up a quarter, and one team gets it. And then the rest of the game is the other team trying to get the quarter back. People who golf have a big advantage over those who fish. When golfers lie, at least they do not have to show anything to prove it. Sainthood emerges when you can listen to someone’s tale of woe and not respond with a description of your own What do you put on a pig’s sore leg? Oinkment! Why did Beethoven kill his chicken? Because it kept saying “Bach, Bach, Bach.” Have you heard of the new diet? It’s called the Chet Atkins diet. All you do is pick at your food. I never get tired of housework, I don’t do any. When guests come to visit, I just put out drop cloths, and say we are painting.
We are living in very disturbing times. During this season we have been going on a Lenten journey with Christ. Yet around us we see a world that seems to have gone crazy. I have a credo by Frei Betto which I wish to share. It was published in 1993, but it continues to speak to me today. It is called “The God of My Faith”.
“I don’t believe in the god of the magistrates, nor the god of the generals, nor in patriotic prayers. I don’t believe in the god of funeral hymns, nor in the god of courtrooms, nor in the prologues of constitutions and epilogues of eloquent discourses. I don’t believe in the
God of luck of the rich, nor in the god of fear of the opulent, nor in the happiness of those who rob the people. I don’t believe in the god of a false peace, nor in the god of an unpopular justice, nor in venerated national traditions. I don’t believe in the god of empty sermons, nor in the god of protocol greetings, nor in marriage without love. I don’t believe in the god constructed in the image and likeness of the powerful nor in the god invented as a sedative for the miseries and suffering of the poor. I don’t believe in the god who sleeps in the walls nor hides in the coffers of the churches. I don’t believe in the god of commercials, nor in the god of brightly colored propaganda. I don’t believe in this god made of lies as breakable as clay, nor in the god of the established order over an agreed upon disorder.
The God of my faith was born in a cave. He was a Jew who was persecuted by a foreign king and walked as a vagrant through Palestine. He sought the company of common folk, gave bread to those who were hungry, light to those who lived in darkness, freedom to those who were in chains, peace to those who asked for justice. The God of my faith puts people above the law and love in place of old traditions. He doesn’t have a rock on which to lay his head and is taken for one of the poor. He only met the doctors when they doubted his word. He was with judges, who managed to condemn him. He was sent among the police, a prisoner. He stepped into the palace of the governor to be whipped. The God of my faith wore a crown of thorns. He wore a tunic all woven in blood. He had forerunners who opened the road for him to Calvary, where he died among thieves on the cross. The God of my faith is none other than the son of Mary, Jesus of Nazareth. Every day he dies, crucified by our selfishness. Every day he rises by the strength of our love”. I pray that we may not act out of selfishness, but out of love, the love shown by Christ for the world. May it be so. Peace, Roberta

As you may know, we have offered hospitality to homeless women and children, people with disabilities, and refugees for over 50 years. We also pick up used furniture, appliances, beds, etc. and give these to families in need. We have picked up and delivered tons and tons of furniture, beds, etc. from donors who want their used items to be used by those in need and not thrown in the trash. Marquette U. has offered us furniture and beds since they are tearing down one of their student residences. They do not want to throw away these items, They would like us to pick up these items. We are willing to do this, but we need a lot of space to store them while we try to get them to those in need There are 600 desks, 600 closets, 600 dressers, 600 bed frames and 600 chairs! If you can help with this in any way we would be very grateful. Also, we are in need of funds for the hou Thanks much!
Our prayers go out to Chris Jaszewski who was riding his bike and was hit by a car which then took off and left him on the street. Our prayers go out to those who did it as well. Chris has for many years helped us with pick ups and serving at meal programs.
