We are to follow Christ. What would Christ do if he was physically here today? Would He ever pick up a weapon to gain revenge or to protect his family or his people? Did he try to build up a violent resistance to the Roman emperor? Remember that Christ lived at a time when Roman soldiers were persecuting the Jews. What did He do about this? It is written that Christ was approached by a Roman soldier. The soldier begged Christ to heal his son. Did Christ turn him away? Did he rebuke the soldier for his killing of Jews? No. he healed the soldier’s son. He did what he said we all should do. He preached that we must love our enemies AND do good, not evil, to them. Does that mean that Christ did not care for his fellow Jews? He told us to do good to those who cause us harm. His answer to war is to love the enemy and do good to all, even those who do all manner of evil things. He would even die on a cross rather than harm anyone. He forgave his killers. He taught that it is better to die than to kill another. We must not do the evil done to us by others, and call it following Jesus. Just think what a world we would have if we all did what Christ told us to do! Loving one’s enemy means no war and no weapons of war. --Don

I haven't gotten anything done today. I've been in the Produce Department trying to open this stupid plastic bag. If you find yourself feeling useless, remember: it took 20 years, trillions of dollars, thousands of lives and four presidents to replace the Taliban with the Taliban. I put my scale in the bathroom corner and that's where the little liar will stay until it apologizes. A newly married man asks his wife, “Would you have married me if my father hadn’t left me a fortune?” “Darling, I would have married you no matter who gave you the fortune.” Why do dogs float in the water? Because they are good buoys. A man goes on vacation and asks his brother to look in on their mother and his cat. After a few days he calls his brother to get a report. “How are things?” he asks. “The cat died,” his brother answers. “That’s not how you give someone bad news!” he says. “How should I tell you?” his brother asks. “You could say the cat went out on the roof. You crawled out after it, but it jumped to a tree. You called the fire department, and they brought a hook and ladder and went up after the cat. But the cat jumped and fell to the ground. You took the cat to the vet, and they did everything they could, but the cat died. That’s how you give someone bad news.” “I’ll keep that in mind,” his brother said. “So how’s Mom?” the man asks. “She’s on the roof.”

NOTES FROM 21ST STREET:
It is February 27th, I am in the woods and people are out enjoying the 60+ weather. I am conflicted. It is such a wonderful respite to have such mild weather. Listening to the wind blowing in the trees and not being cold. In fact I am enjoying the gentle touch of wind on my cheek. Yet I know this is unnatural. Our world has been changed by human beings. Our always grasping for bigger and better without checking how it might effect the flora, fauna, water and air has been a great tragedy. The damage is getting close to being irreversible. What are we to do? Perhaps by living more simply might be start. As I started my walk again I saw a train in the distance which was pulling over 50 oil tanker. Mmm. Later I spotted a hawk on perched on a nearby branch. I watched as he looked down into the woods for his dinner. Later I saw the hawk meet up with his mate. I felt honored to have been given the gift to see their grace and beauty. If we truly want to be peace people we must find a way to live that honors and supports other species. They too, are a part our family. I will close with a Hopi Legend by Frank Waters; ”The earth-mother had many children other then humans: the stem of long grass that developed into a stalk of maize, the lofty spruce, all the birds of the air, the beasts of plain and forest, the insect and the ant. They too have equal rights to life.” May we all remember that we are only one of many and each are important and are to be honored. Peace, Roberta
