House Needs: Steel baking pans, meat products, fresh fruit and vegetables
Many of the countries of Latin America have suffered invasions by the same countries that today are extending an invitation to reject the invasion of Ukraine. President Gustavo Petro of Columbia notes that many people moving through Latin America to seek asylum in the U.S. are from Venezuela, a country that has been devastated by U.S. sanctions. He calls for an end to punitive economic sanctions against both Venezuela and Cuba, both to slow migration and to address historic injustice. The previous invasions, the old imperialism, the old domination, continue to weigh against humanity. One proposal to Biden is that the U.S. deal with being the largest emitter of CO2, I ask: What is the difference between Ukraine and Palestine? Isn’t it time to end both wars and other wars, and use the little time we have to build the roads to save life on Earth? Basically, Latin American countries are refusing to participate in war because many of the countries of Latin America — Guatemala, the Dominican Republic, Panama, Grenada, Argentina and so on — have suffered invasions by the same countries that today are extending an invitation to reject the invasion of Ukraine. The U.S. has invaded more countries than other nation. That is what I call the hypocrisy of international policy. The United Nations must be consistent. If we want a peace conference in the Ukraine and in Palestine, it’s because we want there to be a common policy against invasions in any part of the world, carried out by any country.----Don Timmerman

Woman to painter: the next room was to be bright red. The builder went to the front door and yelled: “GREEN SIDE UP!” When he went back into the house, she told him that the next room was to be tan. The builder went to the front door and yelled: “GREEN SIDE UP! ”When he came back, the lady was pretty curious, so she asked him “I keep telling you colors, but you go out the front and yell green side up; what is that for?” The builder said, “Oh don’t worry about that, I’ve got Don laying the sod out front. A man looked at the menu at the airport restaurant and saw that the sandwiches were named for planes. When the order arrived, he was disappointed to see how small his burger was, but he ate it anyway. He called his waiter over. “Was that the ‘jumbo jet’?” he asked. “Yeah,” the waiter answered. “Went pretty fast, didn’t it?” Paul got a part-time job at the Post Office. The first assignment his supervisor gave him was the job of sorting the mail. Paul separated the letters so fast that his motions were literally a blur. Extremely pleased by this, the supervisor approached Paul at the end of his first day. “I just want you to know,” the supervisor said, “that I’m very pleased with the job you did today. You’re one of the fastest workers we’ve ever had.” “Thank you, Sir,” said Paul, beaming, “and tomorrow I’ll try to do even better. ” “Better?” the supervisor asked with astonishment. “How can you possibly do any better than you did today?” Paul replied, “Tomorrow I’m going to read the addresses.” Did you hear about the 2 guys that stole my calendar? They each got 6 months. Judge: “Is this the first time you were up before me?” Defendant: “I don’t know. What time do you get up? The first sign of old age is when you hear snap, crackle and pop, and It ain’t coming from your breakfast cereal. When I stoop over to tie my shoe I wonder what else I can do while I am down there. The census worker asked the home owner how old he was. He answered, “I am as old as Paul and Hilda Hill next door.” So the census worker wrote, “He is as old as the Hills.” Some one complimented Don on his alligator shoes, but he was not wearing any shoes. I always wanted to be an angel. That’s why I keep harping about it. I climb mountains so I keep in peak shape. Judge: Young man, where do you work? Young man: Here and there. Judge: What do you do for a living? Man: This and that. Judge: Take him away to jail. Man: When will I get out? Judge: sooner or later. Did you hear about the dog that gave birth to puppies by the side of the road? She was ticketed for littering. When is an eye not an eye? When an onion makes it water. With his wife suddenly in labor, a man frantically called 911, “My wife is having a baby,” he shouted to the dispatcher. The dispatcher said, “Calm down. It will be alright. Is this her first baby?” “No,” he yelled, “This is her husband.”

NOTES FROM 21ST STREET: My yard and garden have become an overgrown jungle. When I go into the yard, I see weeds have taken over any open space. The grass is high and the roses need dead heading of old blooms. There are yards around us that are neatly groomed with beautiful flowers. The other day I saw a fellow wearing a mask and spraying pesticide on a nearby garden. Later I went outside into my garden. I held my breath in surprise at what I saw. There on one of my plants was an insect. It was green in color just like the plant it was on. It was a Praying Mantis. The insect has a delicate, regal appearance. I spotted another one in a different part of my garden. I have not seen one in many years. As I walked along I heard and saw many bees on and around the Russian sage I planted throughout the garden. The presence of the various insects made me so very happy. I feel bad that I am slowing down on my ability to weed and care for my garden. Yet, I have provided a pesticide free space for the various insects to flourish. They too, are a part of the web of life. I am most grateful. Peace, Roberta
